Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice but well used condition enlisted man's pickelhaube spike helmet from a Prussian Infantry Regiment, most likely used during the Great War. The overall condition of this pickelhaube is definitely what we would consider a "battlefield pickup." It is quite worn, and many of the original components are missing, including the chin strap and attachment hardware. This also means that one of the kokarden (cockades) is missing. The rear support spine is present but almost detached, and the liner is a replacement, done much later in time. This is a pickelhaube with some real stories to tell.
The hardware on the helmet indicates repair, or manufacture during the transition to the M1915 helmet, as while the fittings all are all magnetic, the Wappen, front visor trim, and spike base are gilt. The other components are all the usual oxide coated steel seen on the M1915 helmet.
The Prussian wappen (coat of arms) features a large eagle with the King's motto, MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND ( With God for King and Country, i.e. Prussia ). The Wappen is held in place by the correct leather tabs. The top of the helmet is very little sunken in, and the brass trim on the front is present but does have some warping and a split in the front. There looks to have been attempts to repair the helmet in the distant past as well. Definitely an interesting example, with lots of history! Size is approximately 54cm.
